Practical Pediatric Adjustments
The youngest person I ever adjusted was a few hours old...
"Why would you adjust a baby?", many people have asked: The birth process is very stressful. We assume it is most stressful on the mother, but look at a newborn's features. Often the skull is mis-shapen, and there can be weakness in the baby's neck muscles. What kind of problems can this cause? I believe that colic can be one of the problems resulting from the birth traumaprobably the most common one. Since the child is growing at such a rapid rate, it is important to remove all of the interference, so that the baby can develop to his/her maximum potential.
Studies have shown that there are pressures inside the womb, which can have a negative effect on the baby. Intrauterine pressures can impact the child and cause developmental delays. No, I don’t adjust the child while in utero, but it is very important for the pregnant mother to have adequate care of her spine and pelvis. This insures that the shape of the pelvic basin is correct and that the baby sits in the correct position during the third trimester. Of ladies in my office who had care consistently while pregnant, none had a breach presentation.
There are other times when a child benefits from adjustments. In my office, earaches are treated by adjusting the upper cervical spine, and often the infection clears up within days. Fevers common with infants respond to adjusting as well. The child will be checked to find the cause of the fever, but if it’s just a virus, which by the way, should not be treated with antibiotics, spinal adjustments have proven very beneficial and calming to the child and reducing the fever.
There are other reasons to treat children, and if you have any questions, please feel free to call me.
